Eyal Kaplan is the Chairman of Expand Investment Partners and since 1995, a Managing General Partner with Walden Israel, a leading early stage venture capital firm. Mr. Kaplan’s funds established with institutional investors from the US, Europe and Israel are among the top performers among Israeli venture funds. Mr. Kaplan’s investments, as his profound expertise have contributed immeasurably to helping build successful technology companies, often incorporating innovation as a growth engine for organic as well as strategic development.
In recent years, Mr. Kaplan has expanded his professional involvement to working with venture capital funds, private equity firms and institutional investors on a variety of projects involving larger, growth stage companies in the information technologies, communications, healthcare and industrial products sectors.
Previously, Mr. Kaplan was a founding executive at Geotek Communications, one of the pioneers in the wireless and mobile data space. He held numerous key operational and strategic roles and was instrumental in growing this startup to over 400 employees and a NASDAQ market cap of close to $1 billion.
Mr. Kaplan has served on the Boards of several Walden portfolio companies, including nLayers (sold to EMC), Safend (sold to Wave Systems) and Cognitens (Sold to Hexagon AB) as well as on the boards of several private, non-venture backed companies. Mr. Kaplan’s other distinguished positions include; Chairman of the Board of the Technion Alumni Association, Technion Board of Governors, the Advisory Board of the Caesarea Center for Capital Markets and Risk Management and The Leadership Board of the Global Consulting Practicum at the Wharton School.
Eyal holds an MBA from the Wharton School of Business, an MA in International Studies from the The Lauder Institute, and a B.Sc. (President’s List) in Economics from the Technion in Israel.
